Do squirrels mate for life?

I've read different sources saying that they do, and then I'll read something that says they never mate with the same squirrel twice? Which is it, and if it varies between types/breeds of squirrels, can you tell me which one does what?Do squirrels mate for life?
If the female signals she is ready, the closest male will take advantage. So, they don't mate for life. The males takes before the babies are born.

Gray Squirrels mate in January, but Red Squirrels mate in February and March. The male squirrel will chase the female who has signaled that she is ready to mate. This chase may last a long time. Much chattering and tail twitching accompany this. The females always chose their mate. There is a seldom-serious fight that happens between the females or males. By the time the babies are born, the male is always gone.Do squirrels mate for life?
Monogamy is usually practiced only by animals in which the males take part in parental care. Male squirrels take no role in parental care, so they won't hang around while the female is nursing her young. They are free to pursue other females after mating. Of course the female is also free to seek other males after mating as well.
